Schneider, Pierson, & Bugental, (2015), present the humanistic movement of psychology and the human condition as the self cannot be isolated and studied within the confines of being compartmentalized, or in a reductionist manner; and that self cannot be definitively known. Self is paradoxical, no one specific person can be put into a box, given the same timeline with the same set of rule s and come out with the same conclusion as to whom they become, or make this life charted and navigational. Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Rollo May, Sidney Jourard, were the primary bearers of the humanistic movement in the United States, with a common core belief that human beings were creative, and adaptive that adhere to a set of values, were purposeful with their intentions (Schneider, Pierson, & Bugental, 2015). The theories that were established early were to provide awareness as to human beings and their actions, and why they choose their actions, that shape who they are through self-awareness, and reflection (Felder et al., 2014). The significance is to help guide human beings through life with purpose, understand the inherent characteristics, and what is learned through experience that shapes our personality and character.
