no cover sheet, no reference, use your own words
I believe that our society has taken a dive in the wrong direction with our active listening skills. Social media spreads news in seconds, something that we were not used to growing up. The reality of that began to hit us when we started to see what we now refer to as “fake news” stories that have harmed people’s reputations for no other reason than to lie. Before social media, it was hard enough to avoid crummy news stories, but now that it is everywhere we cannot really avoid it unless we shut off our phones, TVs, and live in the woods with no wifi.
I do believe that there is a glimmer of hope. A lot of people have begun to notice that these stories pop up to stir up emotions and cause unnecessary drama and many are fighting back against the outlets and the people who post them. With that being said more and more people are seeking the truth for themselves, reading more, asking thoughtful questions, and are starting to actively listen to what is really going on in the world. This has led to a lot of activism and for the most part, I believe that it is positive and serves to inform us. I hope that we continue to question everything and find our own answers.
