Choose one of the movies listed below (or an alternate movie approved by the instructor) and write a paper describing the mental health issues—issues that can be treated using psychotherapeutic methods covered in the course–faced by each of at least two characters in the film. Describe each character’s symptoms in terms of the character’s story, functionality, and relationships with others.
Then describe and review in detail which three (3) separate and distinct treatment modalities from three different theoretical orientations you would recommend for each character, giving reasons for your choices. Be sure to explain specifically how the treatment you recommend would alleviate the symptoms of the character.
Your paper should be organized around the following categories: (Use the bold words as headings, following APA style)
- Introduction (about one page) – Describe the movie and the main characters. Designate which characters you will analyze.
- Mental Health Issues (about a page per character, 2-3 pages total) – Describe the discernible mental health issues faced by each character, discussing at least two (2) characters and giving the appropriate diagnosis in each case.
- Treatments (at least one page per character, 2-3 pages total) – Explain three (3) specific therapeutic orientations from the textbook that you could use with each character and why you would use these. Include information related to the specific method and the theory the method is based on. Explain specifically how each method could be utilized with each character—that is, what strategies and techniques could be used.
- Conclusion (up to one page per character) – Which of the three described treatment modalities do you think will be most effective for each character and why. Be sure, as part of your discussion, to include information related to ethical issues that must be considered.
Papers should be written in APA style (double-spaced, 12-point font, with margins no larger than 1″) and submit by midnight, Sunday of Unit 6. Please title your paper using the following format: “YourName/MovieTitle”.
