Giuseppe Vitale Week 5 February 26th, 2023 Ever since the incident on my 20th birthday, I have been at my true best and quite literally a super phenom that came from another planet. To start off last year on my 19th birthday, I received a brand-new car, a fast and loud Dodge Challenger. You know the big motor 392 scat pack, man I just love big, ol’ muscle cars. I would love to race and run from the police and do all sorts of stupid teenage shenanigans. Anyways, to introduce myself, my name is Gio, people tend to nickname me as crazy, ballsy and at times bat-s*** crazy. I feel they call me crazy due to me not giving a single damn what I do regardless if my life was on the line. My senior year of high school I remember jumping off a hundred foot bridge and of course landing in water and my friends thought I was insane but it was the norm for me. Like this year I went and decided to off a building near the oceanside, but this building was 150 feet high, my highest jump ever. But this one felt different. I had an eerie feeling before I did the act and as I hit the water everything went black. All I remember being told is me walking out of the water like nothing happened and said no word and went to the car. I did not even remember that even happening, how could I forget doing something like that? As the days pass I start to feel much weaker and felt the urge of just staying home, so I did. I missed a whole month of school and have been lying to my mother that I have been there and I have not been with my friends, I basically went M.I.A. One day I suddenly felt so much stronger and so much better then I had ever felt. I was confused on what happened but I went back to school and started my life again. I was getting A’s in all my exams, not one error. I usually am an average student, not no 4.0 GPA kind of student. I didn’t care but all I know is I am happy with it. Here is where the crazy stuff begins to happen. My boy Seb asked to go to the field to go and train for the season to come, and obviously I was there. I have not practiced for over a month so I figured I would be rusty. The complete opposite, I had a mile time of 2 minutes, I shot soccer balls at 150 mph on average. Seb says “ what the f***, what even are you? Supernatural? This is beyond any human capability.” I replied with “ Bro I do not know but I am needing to test this s*** out.” To describe myself, I am 6 ‘ 3 and weigh 175 pounds I am not super huge but average. I went to the gym the following day to go workout and I was benchin 600 pounds with ease, 10-15 reps. People just stared at me and literally was so confused as to how someone my size lifted six times my bodyweight. I started to feel like a genuine superhero and wanted to test if I was like Spiderman, he is my favorite superhero. I went behind the gym to test it out and to answer that question, no I can not climb walls nor swing with webs. It would have been cool but I enjoy with what I got. All of a sudden I hear the message “ come…Ocean…Spot.” I honestly thought I was hallucinating but as I continued home the message became more clear and strong, “Come to the ocean, the spot of the accident.” That message could not have been any clearer, so as any curious twenty year old would do, I went to where I jumped off the building. As I walk towards the site, I see a figure, standing at the ocean shore with a golden staff just staring at the horizon. I got the chills sent up my spine and the figure turned and stared at me, like it knew I was there and sensed me. I stood there in fear and all of a sudden, the figure vanished. My eyes must have been deceived. I was like “ Where the hell, ain’t no way he dipped like that.” Just as I was about to take another step, a strong and deep voice behind me goes “ Where you think you going son?” Quite literally I feared as I heard that and turned around. The figure was right behind me, he must have been ten feet tall and had the body of Hercules. His white hair of his beard and head, blowing in the wind. He proceeds “ you must not understand who or what I am, but I am also sure you don’t understand your supernatural abilities you have as well, Gio.” I go “ How the f*** do you know my name and know what I been doin?” The figure grabs me and literally we soar to the heights above the clouds, and now I am literally s******* my pants. I proceed “ WHY THE HELL ARE WE… WHAT THE… HOW… WHO ARE YOU?” The figure proceeds to answer “ My son, are you ready?” I go “ I’M NOT YOUR SON, WHO ARE YOU?” The figure drops me, and I am falling back towards the ground. All I am doing is panicking and hollering and screaming at the top of my lungs. I hit the ground so hard. But got up untouched and was so confused. The figure behind me now “ You were supposed to fly down my son.” Me jumping and again scared “ AGH, Stop doing that s*** yo, and what do you mean fly, I don’t got wings. And again I’m not yo son who even are you?” The figure again picks me up and we are above the clouds and he goes “ Are you ready?” I scream “ WHAT THE F***, WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOT THIS AGAIN, I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.” The figure responds “ Just think my son.” As he drops me again and I am screaming and hollering all again, but all of a sudden I am flying and soaring myself. I think to myself “am I superman? Can’t be, I got the qualities like him but like no way” As I soar back down to the ground and met with the figure at the shore. I holler “ Hey a**h***, what even are you, and how do you know me and what I can do?” The figure responds “you best to respect me as I am the one who created you and given you all that you have, I am the one who saved you from your accident 2 months ago. You were dead, but you have to thank me as I was resting, watching you do your stupid acts.” I respond “ wait I was dead?” The figure follows with “yes you were, and to follow up I am Titano, I am from the planet Kepler.” I am just I’m shock and respond “ What the f***. Okay I am outta here my mind is buggin goodbye titty or whatever your name was.” I walk home with such shock and confusion and just wanted to sleep. I woke up the next morning and had to show my friends that I was able to fly and that I was literally invincible. I go to seb’s house before he leaves for school and walked in screaming “ What up boy lets get to school.” Seb comes down and says “ Why you so excited superman?” As we walk out I grab him and blastoff. Seb screaming “ YOOO, WHAT THE HELL BRO YOU CAN FLY? WHAT ARE YOU?” We pass the school and we went to the city. I go and say “ Watch this” as I leave seb at the base of the thousand foot building and leap off to land right beside him cracking the sidewalk. Seb goes “ YOUR INVINCIBLE TOO? NAHHH” I grab him and we fly back to school just on time. All day seb was in such a shock and disbelief as to what he witnessed and knows. School passes long and Seb and I meet up after school and he says “You have to use those powers for good, you are the real life superman, you can save this city!” I respond with “ I mean I guess but I don’t have a costume.” Seb says “ I know how to tailor trust me you will look badass” We proceed to Seb’s house and begin to process and decide a costume for my superhero role. Finally after 4 long hours of deciding, and tailoring we came up with the sketch and decided to do an all black suit with a blank face and blacked out eyes. I say “ I am going to look menacing let’s do it.” Days pass and my heroic acts become a national news title and the whole United states know me. They call me, Mysterio, as I am in all black and have no idea who I am. I fight crime and been taking care all of New York City. To the point where the mayor of New York City has said “ This has been the first day there has been no crime committed in this city.” The people love me and as I fly pass they cheer and admire what they see. After a long day of fighting crime and saving my city, the voices come back “ Come to the shore, Titano needs you.” I was there in a matter of seconds, I have mastered flight and my powers that I have full control of everything. I see Titano on the shore waiting for me again, This time he still stares at the shore and does not look at me until I was right behind him. Titano proceeds to say “ I see you have made great name for yourself, Mysterio? What made you want to act so good as you were such a delinquent and foolish person prior to this?” I respond with “ I gained a true understanding of my powers and potential that I knew my city needed me.” Titano goes on with “ I am proud that you realized this even before me telling you, maybe watching those superhero movies as a kid helps huh?” We both chuckle and I say “ I guess so, but why have you never done such acts, Titano?” He is silently for awhile and responds with “Back in kepler I was just like you, until the whole world hated me and I had fought off foreign threats and even aliens that would attack… I still regret this decision and one day decided to stop and that was the destruction of my planet. All I am telling you is be careful because some people love to se a hero fall and fail rather then doing his best.” I was in such shock and just responded with “ Trust me Titano, I will not let you down, I will do even better then you” and I fly off as I go back to the city to protect and serve.

My Roommate Sammy – Zakria Riyaz My parents came from a ridiculously wealthy family , with sources of income that I couldn’t count on two hands. They were wealthy, to say the least, but they were not good parents. They sent me to a boarding school in Switzerland in the summer of 2008 when I turned 15, claiming they wanted me to become independent and travel the world on my own. I can’ t say I believed their reasoning, but I didn’ t mind the idea. My first day at “Success Academy” told me all I needed to know about this place. Everyone I met was a mini version of my parents: rich, selfish, and snobby . The school boasted about alumni who went on to become world leaders, star athletes, famous musicians, and so on, but none of that made sense to me given the people I was currently surrounded by . I was what you would call a scrawny kid. I weighed less than what half the guys in my gym class could bench, and I didn’ t quite have supermodel looks, nor was I smart in any sense of the word. Needless to say , I had no hope of leaving this school and becoming one of their honored alumni. In our first week at Success Academy, we were assigned a roommate. I got partnered up with an absolute unit of a man, a true specimen of masculinity , you might say. His name was Sammy . He was about 6 feet tall with the build of a rugby player and had a face that was pleasing to look at, to say the least. A part of me couldn’ t believe he was the same age as me and the complete opposite of me. What really tipped me off about this guy was that not only did he have the looks and build, but he also had the brains to back it up. To get into Success Academy, you had to take an entry test in which they categorized students into intellect levels. Let’s just say I was in the bottom ten, and Sammy , well, there was a rumor going around the school that he was the top freshman in the class this year . I loathed his very existence because he was better than me at everything, but one day I sat down and thought about the absolute upper hand I would have in the school if I were his friend. I don’ t think Sammy felt the same way about me because anytime I would try to talk to him, he wouldn’ t say anything back. I tried countless times to even hear a word out of his mouth, but he always had this serious look on his face, like he would kill me if I tried to get any closer . I gave up after the first three weeks of trying and moved on to my next plan. I knew I couldn’t continue as a loner and punching bag at this school, so I set out to meet new people. One of the worst ideas I ever had was trying to befriend the boys in my gym class. They didn’t just shut me out like Sammy . When I tried approaching them, they laughed and mocked me for even trying. I was stupid enough to utter the words “I know why you all are so hard-headed, because you were probably dropped on your heads as kids” right to their face. Needless to say , I was beaten into a pulp. I was taken to the school’s infirmary , where they had to patch up a few stitches on my face because of how badly I had been beaten. I knew the teachers, and everybody saw what they did to me, but the whole gang of hooligans—three to count—did not face any repercussions. I tried to call my parents back home to settle this issue with the dean of the school, but they couldn’ t even care to answer or shoot a text back. I accepted the fact that their parents were most likely very high up the food chain and could get their delinquent children out of trouble whenever they needed to. I walked to my dorm with two crutches and a bruised face after three days in the hospital. I walked in the door , and needless to say , I wasn’t at all excited to see Sammy in the room. As I walked right past him and into my side of the room, he was sitting on the side of his bed. “How many were they?” Those were the first words I had ever heard come out of Sammy’ s mouth, but I didn’ t reply, and why should I have when he never replied back to me? “Why couldn’t you stay quiet like that when they were making fun of you… maybe if you had stayed quiet, you wouldn’t have ended up like that,” Sammy sneered. I replied, “Because idiots like them need to hear the truth.” Sammy came up towering above me, looking over my body to analyze the damage that had been done. “If you could, would you make sure they ended up in a wheelchair like yourself?” Sammy asked. I didn’t know why he was asking me all this, but for the first time in my life, I felt like someone was genuinely showing me a slither of concern. I replied, “If it were up to me, they’d never be able to walk again.” Sammy nodded and exited the room, and we never uttered another word to each other for a week after that. Then came the day when I no longer needed the crutches to walk. I walked into gym class only to notice that the hooligans were not present. It didn’ t matter to me; I wasn’ t scared of them, and I figured they were probably out skipping class like the delinquents they were. It was later in the day that the whole school was disrupted by the sounds of police sirens across the campus. We later found out that the gang of hooligans had been brutally beaten up by some masked vigilante in the school. According to rumors, they were so terrified after the incident that they couldn’t even speak. While the entirety of the school was in deep sorrow , I was dancing on the inside. It was about time they got what they deserved. A few weeks pass by after the incident, and life is good until I find a mask underneath Sammy’ s desk in the room. I wouldn’t have thought anything else of it had I not seen a few streaks of blood on the mask. I knew then that Sammy was involved. I waited in the room for Sammy after the school day was over so I could confront him about this. I didn’ t care that the hooligans had been beat up, but I didn’ t support what Sammy had done, nor did I know why . As soon as Sammy walked through the door , he saw the mask on his bed. “What—where—what are you doing with that?” Sammy asked. I didn’ t reply because he knew the answer to his own question. “Listen, you didn’t tell anyone about this, right?” Sammy questioned. I didn’t want to answer any of his questions because I was going to be the one asking them. I replied, “Why’d you do it?” Sammy closed the door behind him and put his head down as he replied, “I wanted to help.” A deep silence filled the room, only to be broken by me. “Help me! You don’ t even know me!” I exclaimed. Sammy went over to his backpack in the closet, pulled out a picture of his older brother , and handed it to me. W e talked that night, and I found out a lot about Sammy . I discovered that his older brother , Frank, went to this school three years ago. He was the smartest student in his class, but he was going through depression. One day , a couple of the students picked on Frank when he was having one of his worst episodes of depression. They beat him up as a joke, but Frank went to his room that night and never woke up. He had overdosed on his depression medication. His last words were to Sammy through a text message that read, “Sammy , I wish I could be strong like you, but I’m not. I wish I could keep fighting, but I can’ t. I love you. Please never stop being you and always help those that cannot help themselves.” The first time I ever saw Sammy cry was when he was reading his brother ’s text to me. He told me that he saw Frank in me and that it didn’ t sit right with him that the delinquents who beat me up were walking unphased by their actions. He had to teach them a lesson, not for my sake or for his own, but for Frank’ s sake. I’m no angel myself; I didn’ t care if the world gained three new cripples so long as they wouldn’ t hurt anybody else. Sammy and I decided to keep this between ourselves, and we never spoke about the incident again. That incident taught me alot about Sammy . I later found out that like his brother, he also suf fered from depression. I am not certain if that truly justified his ghosting of me whenever I tried to talk to him but I never thought too much of it. I could only sympathize with him for what he had to go through but he could empathize with me on another level. He saw his brother in me and I didn’ t know how to feel about that. I didn’ t want things to be awkward between us but I just couldn’ t shake the fact that he might have viewed me as a brother all this time while I viewed him as a stuck-up loser until that incident. I came into the school looking to make new friends but in the crowd of hundreds of stuck-up and selfish brats, Sammy stood out. He had a purpose and a reason to be successful. He was someone I began to look up to. Even after the incident, our convos were short-lived and those that resembled the conversations of two strangers but there was a sense of friendship behind them that the naked eye could not see. When my own parents neglected me to the point where they couldn’ t even text or call back, Sammy was there for me.
